This book just keeps killing it. I was never that big an Age of Apocalypse fan and for the most part disliked Morrison's run, but the way Remender has pulled all this X-history together is astounding. He's made Deadpool funny and likeable, the Angel/Psylocke relationship interesting, and Fantomex less French. He's woven disparate plotlines reaching back 25 years, from early X-Factor to those seeded in recent years (the San Fran Celestial, Aaron's Deathlok) but not in a fanboyish hit all the sentimental notes kind of way (though there is that, to be sure); he's created something new and added to the mythos, not fed off it. How good is Opena? While the artwork had been decent in his absence, he's just on an entirely different level. Dean White's colors look even better on Opena's work, I don't who makes who look better. The attention to detail is outstanding, from the coloring of the evolution scene, to the screaming face on the bullet. (I feel like I should understand Fantomex' description of the bullet, anyone?) Lastly, a pet peeve of mine the last few months has been Marvel sneaking in 20 instead of 22 pages of story. So many issues I've gone back and counted the pages because the story just felt so light, went by so quick, and sure enough, only 20 pages. Well after reading this issue I went back and counted because I thought there were 26 or so pages. Nope, only 20. Well done, X-Force, well done. You more than earned my $2.99. Wait... $3.99? F--k. Oh well. Still worth it.
