Greetings all fellow iFanboys . It has been an entire summer since I last wrote a review and I am not surprised that Uncanny X-Force is still the best on-going X-title out right now. This week I was able to catch up on one of my favorite books starting from issue #9 which was my least favorite so far since it portrayed an awkward moping Magneto and a team that was not a bit worried about him finding out their existence. Now we hit upon Uncanny X-Force #13, the third installment of the Dark Angel Saga. Before I get to the actual review portion, here is a full rundown on what happened in this issue. The book starts off with Fantomex, Gambit, Rogue, and Sunfire are being attacked by the Celestials while retrieving the seed of life which will save Warren Worthington from his Archangel persona. Gambit willingly sacrifices himself in order to let his comrades make an escape. The next scene has a brawl. X-Force (minus Fantomex) teams up with the AoA X-Men (consisting of Jean Grey, Iceman, Nightcrawler, Wild Child, and Sabretooth) to fight against AoA Logan and his henchmen. After Jean refuses AoA Logan’s offer to join him to rebuild their world, AoA Logan grabs Jean and teleports away to his base of operations. Iceman makes a getaway as well and Fantomex is reunited with the rest of X-Force. The team reaches AoA Logan’s base with the help from Gateway and Fantomex is able to thwart AoA Logan’s plan to use the death seed on Jean by using his power of misdirection. Wolverine wants to use the life seed to stop AoA Logan’s chaos, but the entire team returns back to their own reality instead. Inside of Cavern-X, they meet with Archangel, Dark Beast, and the Horsemen of Apocalypse. Finally are my thoughts about this issue and the arc so far. First of all, for the artwork, I think Mark Brooks did a serviceable job on this run, but I would much rather enjoy gazing upon Jerome Opena’s or Billy Tan’s art. It’s not like I loathe Brook’s art style in any way, it’s just that I would prefer Dean White’s type of coloring to accompany the style of Opena and Tan does on paper. Jerome Opena will return in Uncanny X-Force #14 so that is already a definite plus for the next issue. Overall this is good read. I could feel the tension going on with the characters of the book as they try to save one of their own and at the same time survive in a realm that is different from theirs. Even though this book is a good read, I did have a particular issue with Wolverine. The top priority of X-Force is to save their team mate Warren, but Wolverine all of a sudden has second thoughts and wants to save the AoA reality from its demise. I feel Wolverine wanting to use the seed to stop AoA Logan’s chaos was a bit selfish. Is it just me who angrily feel this way? His reunion with Jean has clouded his judgment and now he wants to save a reality that is not his. Glad Psylocke is on the team to wake his ass up. Hey Bub get over Jean and find a new tail to chase because you are a badass! Look at Cyclops. He has moved on and is getting it regular from Emma. The second issue I have is the usage of Fantomex’s character. Rick Remender tends to use Fantomex’s power of misdirection whenever the team is in a very tight spot. Instead of Fantomex using this power to the save the team all the time, I feel it would be wise to rotate who should receive the star treatment so that it would not be a one man show. Like I said a good read. Not loveable mainly because I never read Age of Apocalypse or is a fan of alternate reality stories.
