I can’t help but think of Giant-Sized Astonishing X-Men.  I mean, I wasn’t reading comics when the first couple of issues of this originally came out, but I was reading Astonishing X-men.  So I know what it’s like to reading something, enjoying it, then having the ending curtailed because some fancy pants writer is too busy to get portion his time for projects properly.  I was mad at Whedon, but I received the Astonishing finale with gusto and greatly enjoyed the experience.  Here, I came in with little animosity, but found the experience to be much the same.  The story had me chuckling to myself, and the pacing, with the “try to guess what I said to piss him off” gag had me hooked.  Although there is some transparency here that they’ve either stretched the plot out (the memory thing does seem to extend the story) or changed the story to include more issues total in the mini than originally slated.  I don’t mind, but found the ending to be probably the least thrilling thing in the issue.  I can take or leave Yu.  I think his layouts and expressions are good, but everyone just looks a little odd, though very distinct, the color seemed off-par from the first two (recently reprinted) issues.  Just the same, it’s good to know they haven’t forgotten this should be a fun slugfest.  Yeah, comics (sometimes) should just be big, (dumb?) fun.
