Ultimate Human takes an interesting idea for a one shot and drags it on for four issues with so-so art and Ellis techno-babble. What could have been a really good done-in-one ends up a watered down mini-series because people buy Ultimate books regardless of quality. Well at least I buy Ultimate books regardless of quality, I don't want to speak for you.
The basic idea is really great, and one that you can imagine being translated to the main Marvel Universe really well, and that is answering the question of why if Bruce Banner is a genius and his close friends are all geniuses someone did was not able to find a cure for his being the Hulk. Surely Reed Richards, Hank Pym, Tony Stark and Banner himself could put their brains together and come up with something.
In earlier issues Banner and Stark tackle the problem and in fact do cure Banner's Hulk condition using Stark's nano-tech. Of course he can not stay cured, so when they're captured by a gruesome reimagining of Pete Wisdom and the Leader combined into a single character, our heroes left with no choice but to reverse the cure and change Banner into the Hulk. There's never any question as to whether unleashing a beast whose killed hundreds of people is worth it just to save their two lives, which goes against both the Ultimate and main universe charactarization of Tony Stark. Are Stark and Banner's lives more important than the potentially hundreds of lives the Hulk may end? Who knows, who cares. We've got action to get to.
Well not much action. After three issues of waiting for Iron Man and the Hulk to fight side by side we get Hulk throwing a few people and an empty suit of Strak's armour crashing into the Leader/Wisdom.
At least it's done with, and maybe I'll learn my lesson and start trimming my Ultimate books down to just the ones that matter. By that I mean Ultimate Spider-Man.

Warren Ellis laughed all the way to the bank with this one.
seriously, talk about an easy pay check. This was such a let down of a mini series.
This one could be the DOW (the dud of the week)
