John Byrne continues to be relevent in a time when a lot of the vets in the industry get sghut out. I was excited when I saw he was doing another super hero book, his recent work has been nice, but has left me wanting to revisit his runs on X Men and Fantastic Four. And even though this isn’t either of those, this was still a damn fine start.
The throwback style is welcome. In a way I am reminded how excited I was when The Elementals started. I am getting the same vibe here. There’s something about the fun factor on this book that brings a smile to my face that firmly winks at the reader, but doesn’t insult.
Byrne has always been a fine layout man, and his work here is very strong. His scripting has always been fun to read and it’s good to se that now some 30 years after taking over FF as writer and artist that he is not afraid to give his fans and readers a little nudge that he is out there and that he can still be a player in the field five decades into his remarkable career.
I am along for this ride with a smile on my face.

Story: 4 - Very Good

  1. I totally agree with you man. I was so surprised at how much I loved this issue.

  2. I am so happy that my wife lamented at let me go to the comic store this one time.
I greatly enjoy the fanzines that JB is producing for the faithful fifty people who still read his books.
