Something strange has happened. Somewhere along the line Trinity became one of my favorite comics that I am reading.
It started ok, but i was not sure about it. Then at some point it became good and I was sure I was going to stick with it. Then with out my knowing it became awesome.
The creative team has crafted a scenario by which the Trinity of characters have been linked together and then removed from our timeline. They carefully laid the ground work for how important these characters are to the fabric of the DCU so now when they are gone we can really feel the impact. At the end of the last issue they were taken from the timeline so this issue we see a new world where Green Arrow and Speedy protect the rich of Gotham while the Ragman and Tatters protect the poor, Lois Lane is a blowhard, Bill O' Reilly style TV personality and the JSI is the most important hero organization on the planet. It is a really different and intriguing peak at a new DCU that will be explored over the next bunch of issues and I can't wait to see more. I love alternate reality stories and this one looks to be really exciting.
The art has gotten better and better every issue and Bagely seems like he is really getting his hands a round the DCU. The back up stories are always relevant and feed into the main arc so they are worth the extra pages.
This book may end up being as good as 52. I am really glad I stuck with it.

Very cool issue, very reminiscent of Kurt Busiek’s Astro City. I especially liked the backup, which was very much like an issue of Astro City – the one that focused on a character – a guy’s girlfriend or wife – that was erased by a Crisis on Infinite Earths-like event. If you liked Yesterday’s Enterprise, then you will like this backup story. I think Trinity will exceed 52 in that it focuses on the characters people most like to read about – Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman; with their associates, proteges and the League as bonus extra. If the weekly comic is an attempt to capture the excitement of 24, Trinity is coming the closest…
I love how this alternate reality isn’t a postapoctalyptic world with villains running wild. There are still heroes, and they are still recognizable, but not quite what we are used to. The backup story was very good at highlighting these differences from one man’s perspective. I like how it brings up the question of which reality is better. Very awesome issue.
I find it interesting that Oliver Queen seems to be a conservative and that Gotham city seems (at least on some levels or from some perspectives) to be better off without Batman. I assumed they would show us a Gotham that WISHED it was postapocalyptic.
