All Hail Megatron #10..
Wow.. just.. wow..
This book brought everything that was good about the Transformers and then some. You had a Decepticon.. er, deception(?) brought on by, who else, but Starscream and helped put into play by the maniacal Insecticons. For the love of God, would those with license please re-release my beloved Insecticon figurines?!
You had some humor, humility and camraderie among the Autobots as they prepared for what might be their final stand, another 'Return of Optimus Prime', a power struggle for Decepticon supremacy and an appearance from Omega Supreme(!), whose voice I could easily place to some well written dialogue..
- with the exception of "there's too many of them!" and "there's too many!" Don't fret if you don't see the problem here because, apparently, neither did Shane McCarthy.
Grammatical complaints aside this was a wonderful pivot issue, as I sense this thing drawing to a close now that the Autobots are finally on their way back to earth. It could stretch longer thank I think? I wouldn't know though, since I haven't looked it up. Either way, I'm sold for a couple more arcs on what IDW's doing here.
So you might have thought I wasn't going to mention the art "team's" work here. If so, you were sadly mistaken. Because the thing that really pushed this issue over the top was the magnificent art work. Just remarkable. Every panel merits a second and third look.
Strong images of numerous Decepticons really stand out for me, espec. the congregation of Constructicons as they prepare to take on Megatron and of course the image of Megatron fighting off what appears to be a crushing blow from Devastator's fist.
Not a page (those designated to the story at least) or panel was wasted here. Sometimes one could argue that a two page spread is a waste of good sequential real estate, but in the case of Omega Supreme's arrival, it's rarely done any better.
This book was just.. like I said, wow.. Quite frequently I ignore the opportunity to choose a POTW because I only read 3-4 issues and don't feel obligated, but I feel strongly enough about this one to make it my POTW and I'm happy to see that a lot of other readers seem to be doing the same.
ALL HAIL MEGATRON!
Art: 5 - Excellent
