This is a disappointing title, and I think a case of DC assigning the wrong creators on a book. The title and cast by themselves will attract an audience, but an audience that probably worships at the Wolfman/Perez shrine. Wolfman wrote dense scripts that focused on characterization and action while Winick is much more economical with his words. Perez is known for his solid storytelling and attention to detail while Benitez (and Churchill before him) seem to concentrate more on poses with lots of detail in the figures, but not much in the way of backgrounds.

This particular group of Titans seems to be prime for more of an older, nostalgic audience, but the book itself seems aimed at the younger audience looking for ‘wow’ moments. I sometimes wonder how DC Editorial can seem so off the mark with its probable audience. I dunno, maybe they are trying to show these particular characters as more hip and cool when instead they should be portraying them as heroes who have come into their own through their past experiences as they matured into young adults from being the first wave of kid sidekicks.

  1. Totally agree.  Having grown up with them under Wolfman/Perez it’s jarring seeing them ham-fisted into a style that ignores all their own personal development as characters for poses and pasties.
