Earlier this year I finally took it upon myself to finally watch the much heralded tv show Freaks and Geeks and loved it with all my heart, but while I was in the midst of it I’d convinced myself the show was never going to end. It was too well-written, it was too well-acted, and it had a heart of gold, but sometimes the universe just takes good things away. I relived that moment of dark clarity when I was reading Thor the Mighty Avenger #7 this week. Roger Langridge and Chris Samnee are an incredible team the humanity that exists in Langridge’s writing, and Samnee’s art make this book the best Thor comic I’ve ever read, and to be perfectly honest the best super hero comic I’m reading. When I saw the preview cover for the next issue and saw that it had the banner “Final issue” plastered across it my heart broke again, but I got to be okay with it because at least we got to have this magical comic for eight months. Eight months where something so perfect and pure existed in our lives, and will always exist when the two digests come out. Thor the Mighty Avenger has the heart super hero comics should always acknowledge, and it is the best super hero comic since All-Star Superman. I have a strong feeling the impact Thor the Mighty Avenger will have on the industry will be long lasting.

Also the Muppet reference made me grin from ear to ear.

  1. Great review! I had never made the connection in my head to the DC equivalent of this; but you’re right! This is Marvel’s All-Star Superman – the best thing they’re doing which started as an ongoing, but due to circumstance became a limited thing (and I know All-Star Supes is written as a whole story, but when they announced it I distinctly remember them raving about Morrison having years worth of stories…insert lateness joke here).

  2. AMAZING REVIEW! I’m Sad too, this was also my favorite super hero comic

  3. I think you are caught up in the hype and are overevaluating the impact an eight issue mini can have on the comic industry.

I too love this book so I’m down with the sentiment but not the hyperbole.

  4. @ScorpionMasada  Man I’m glad someone said what I was thinking.
I enjoy this book but I think people are killing it by overhyping it to quote someone on the site “It really takes me out of the story”

  5. Good riddance!! Just kidding.

  6. Good riddance!! I’m not kidding.

Most overated book in the history of comics.
