Let me start out by saying that I love Thor. I was never a huge fan but with JMS and Oliver Coipel rebooting the character I have been in love with the series. That said I feel the last two issue arc has felt forced and just not up to the last opening arc.

JMS finishes the final issue of  “Father Issues” and while the arc wasnt bad, it just wasnt up to par with the previous stories. We see Thor finally face his father Odin and Don meet his old school sweethart. The writing is tight but it is a used storyline with Odin stuck in hell fighting everyday for his life in repetition. I did muse at the point when JMS takes a strike at his beloved “One More Day” arc in Spiderman, stating that the Gods cannot control the way people feel and influence thier lives ( take that Mr. Quesada. ).

I feel the art was very lackluster in the issue. Marko Djurdjevic steps in for the second issue while taking a different approach from his covers. Dani Miki inks his work. I feel if he had done the issue with the same painted approach he uses for his covers. I understand that would have been much more time consuming, but the fact remains it doesnt have the “pop” his paintings do. Overall, the art is not bad but not close to as strong as Coipels.

In the end, while the issue was much better than most that sits on the shelves these days, it fell short compared to the previous work. The hope is Coipels return next month will revive the series that we grew to love.
