I've really been enjoying Straczynski's run on Thor mostly because of the fact that it's become a primarily character-driven story. (Well, Copiel's art didn't hurt none either!) I've really enjoyed the Thor's introspective moments and the culture clash between the inhabitants of Asgard and their Oklahoma neighbors. While you could reasonably argue that this issue is also character-driven, it's got a distinctly different tone about it. It's about whether or not Thor is doing the right thing with regard to Odin, and whether he really is breaking away from the old ways or is actually just fulfilling a tradition. The difference here however comes in the fact that this issue is far more heavily steeped in Norse mythology than in culture clashing. And it's "good." I just think I like the culture clash aspect more.
Guest artist Djurdjevic is a great pick for this story however, as his art has more of a "sword and sorcery" feel to it than Copiel's does and that fits the more mythological plot of this issue very well.
Overall, not a bad issue, but I gotta admit that it's certainly not my favorite.
Art: 4 - Very Good
