What a huge disappointment... Being experimental and ambitious in the art of comic book story telling is something that needs to be encouraged, rewarded and supported by the comic loving community. Having the fearless vision to push the medium with some "far out" visions for iconic characters is the hallmark of many great runs in the history of said characters. Which is why I took an interest in the new direction for Spider-Man and was quick to support the idea both conceptually and financially (it has been a while since I purchased a Spider-Man comic - thank you One More Day). So it was to my utter disappointment to find that the "revolutionary" change in character development that I was waiting for to get me interested in Spider-Man again, only serves as device that enables the writer to retread the same old "with great responsibility" mantra while wearing a new clothe of skin. It's one thing to stir the pot for the progression of character but it's another thing to simply force feed us the same dish. (I will not spoil the last page... But) It is in the very moments leading up to that final image where I was hoping and yearning for that character changing moment ushering in a new perspective that has been lacking in Spider-Man stories for some time, but instead I was totally let down by the lack of fearlessness by the writer to truly define this new Superior Spider-Man.
