Disappointed. There was almost no relation to what was solicited or hinted at in the recap page to what was present in this issue. This was supposed to be about Castle getting up on Cole after the Omega Effect. Instead, we get Punisher shooting some zombies. Cole is mentioned once and only as a precursor to zombies attacking Times Square. The bit in the police station with Bolt’s interrogation was interesting but he’s been gone from the story for so long it felt forced. Maybe this is Rucka’s way of getting back into the main Punisher storyline after the Omega Effect but it felt all out of sorts. Punisher is a great comic because it feels grounded. Even with the intro of characters like Daredevil and Spiderman, Punisher feels very street level and crime-focused. To suddenly have him randomly shooting zombies with zero questions asked before, during or after felt out of step with the previous tone of the book. Also, Checcetto is missed. I’m sure he’s burned out after drawing all of the Omega Effect but his pencils are a major draw in this book. In positives, I did like the cameo by a recent Spiderman character. That was clever.
