I did not care for this book at all. Im really disappointed as i am a huge fan of Rucka, but this story just fell flat with me. First off there was the art. The Anime/Mangaesque art really didnt fit the gritty hard boiled world Frank Castle lives in and that alone almost took me out of the book immediately. Second was the story. The story was just plain boring, bad guys do bad things, Frank shows up and kills people. Been there done that. I understand that this was the first chapter in what should probably be a long storyline but i feel as though the first chapter should grab you right from the beginning and make you want to stay on for the ride. Daredevil last month was a great example of how to reintroduce a character and get you hooked right from the beginning. The last straw were the two detectives. As soon as they are introduced and we get Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt rip-offs from Seven i was taken out of their story and its going to take a lot of character work from Rucka to make me look past this everytime i see them on a page. Call me shallow but thats just how i feel. Im going to give the second issue a try, mostly out of sheer curiosity if it’ll get better or worse, but if it doesnt get better then ill have to be dropping this before it ever really started.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 1 - Poor

  1. Have to agree here.  I’m already ordered #2 so I’m gonna give it one more chance, but from what I’m seeing so far, Jason Aaron on Pun MAX is probably going to be the definitive Punisher book at Marvel!!  I can’t wait to read volume 3, why did I switch to trades anyway?!  I hate myself sometimes!!!
