I’ll be honest, when I first read the Massive, I fell asleep. Now I read it in bed and was pretty tired, but I felt kind of bored too. However, on a whim, I picked up all the issues I was missing and caught up to this week. It turns out this was a great move.
The last arc was very exciting and this one starts with a arc. What if the crew members want off the ship?
I would highly recommend picking up the trade if you have not read this in issues and getting caught up. It’s futuristic and has elements of the super natural, although its not overt.

Brian Wood is my new go to writer as I’m reading the Massive, Conan, Star Wars, and I just bought and read two of his Northlanders. So he rules.

Erskine is a veteran of comics and does a fine job, but I like the last artist a bit better.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 3 - Good

  1. Nice review Amircat. I feel the same way regarding Brian Wood; though I’m not reading Star Wars, I’ve been loving Conan, and I want to check out DMZ soon. This continues to be one of my favorite current series’. Ditto on the Erskine art, it was fine and all, but Gary Brown’s style is so fitting for this book.

    • Cool thanks man. I own the first trade for DMZ and need to reread it. I bought it when I first got into comics and didnt like it, but as a more sophisticated reader, I am sure I’ll enjoy it more.

  2. Ditto, man. The art really distracted me from the story. I gave the Story a 4/5 — in retrospect, and taking into account how much the art nullifed the script, I’d give the story a 5/5 too.
