The Cape was superb, so I was excited to see what would happen in this prequel comic. I had an image in my head of a kind of “The Cape origin story”. This was not that, but it was better.

Instead, this was a gritty tale of life in the war zone, with an interesting set up which has me counting the days til the next issue. The Cape itself didn’t even play a role in the story but the characters that were there were expertly presented and there was emotion and intrigue galore. I would totally recommend this comic even if you haven’t read The Cape, plus after you’re done you’ll have a month before #2 comes out to buy that beautiful HC of the original series.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
