Since Spider-Island, Dan Slott has been hit or miss lately. This story, “Ends of the Earth” ends pretty limply after an underwhelming run. Spiderman and his new suit eventually defeats Doc Ock by relying on familiar tropes and silly set pieces. What is lost is the essence of Spiderman as he globe trots and faces a truly world ending event. Also, there is the appearance of a big “death” here but that scene is so silly and ambiguous that there’s no way it happened making the final emotional punch at the end fail to land even for a moment.
Overall, this issue wraps up the arc and that’s a good thing. I’ve liked Slott’s Spiderman overall so I’m glad we’re getting back to NYC, into the Lizard and more low level threats.

  1. Slott actually surprised with the end to this, and i’ve found this story-line pretty damn enjoyable.
