I really liked the first part of Ends of the Earth but this one fell flat. The whole new Spider-suit is weird and the fights between the Avengers and Sinister Six were all resolved with tons of resolutions that came out of nowhere. Also, Slott has a great handle on Spiderman but his Captain America is pretty awful, especially after Zeb Wells’ great take last week in Avenging #5. The whole UN scene at the beginning was weird and wonky. Al Gore and Stephen Hawking sightings are off-putting and pull you out of the comic. Another minor quibble: on the catch-up page, Doc Ock is said to have found a solution to the ozone layer problem. Well, climate change and the ozone layer are very different things. Ozone problem = CFCs, Climate Change = CO2. I don’t know but a lot of little problems made this a very forgettable issue in what has been an otherwise stellar run by Dan Slott. I’ll see if it improves with #684.
