My eight year old self continues to jump with joy at this comic. This month’s issue takes a breather from the main story while taking time to set up the events that will happen in the next story line. In this issue, we get an origin of sorts for the Turtles and Splinter. It’s an interesting take on the characters motivations, and I gotta say that I dig it. In this issue, we also see the characters don their colored masks and the explanation for it, which is related to the motivation, helps it make sense. While some people may be turned off from this, I think this sort of mystical, sort of reincarnation story is a nice addition to the series, and it certainly gives some emotional weight to the events that will soon be coming. The art continues to be a strong point for the series with Dan Duncan continuing his kinetic images and a guest artist taking on the feudal Japan art. All the panels sizzle with energy, and the book is great looking. One of the things that I love about this book is that it feels meaty both with story and images. IDW continues to do a great job with this great property.
