Holy shell the turtles are back! I have never been prouder to be reading comic books. Also I thought it was a great idea to make four different covers each having a different turtle on it. I got the Raphael cover. I enjoyed the intro which had three of the turtles, guess who was absent, and Splinter at a stand off with a cat man and a bunch of, "gangstas" as said by Michaelangelo. The turtles kick some bad guy bootie and then the story flashes back to the origins of the turtles and Splinter. This part, even though it was obvioulsy redone because this is number 1, was brilliantly done. We don't see the turtles doused with mutagen or the transformation because the story doesn't get that far, but the chemical is mentioned. Also I'm glad I didn't hear a single Shredder reference. In the last few pages the story shifts to the best turtle Raphael as he has apparently left the turtles to become a hobo. Comedic relief is shown as he is searching through a dumpster and with a single slice of pizza finds a shirt that reads Cowabunga. It ends on a cruel ending spot with Raphael kicking in the door of a father who is abusing his son. This gets my pick of the week not because it was the first issue but because of the Raphael not being with the others in issue number 1.
