I was late jumping into J.T. Krul’s Teen Titans run but I’ve really liked what I’ve read. Issue #100 wraps up the series heading into The New 52 relaunch. It’s an action packed book that feels like a finale but doesn’t fall short in it’s execution. Krul laces his great action sequences with an almost traditional, old school dialogue that I found very satisfying. The action flows well and never falls into the trappings that other “final issues” sometimes do. What I liked even better was the great way Krul relayed the character relationships even within the action panels. The character moments seem genuine and never come across as contrived. As someone not all that familiar with the Teen Titans, I found this very effective in revealing to me the different feelings and emotions within the team. It’s just a well written and well constructed issue by Krul.

Just as satisfying as the writing is Nicola Scott’s fantastic art. I loved the look of this issue. It has a clean, polished look to it that gives it the feel of a traditional superhero book and I mean that in a very good way. The action sequences are well layed out and have a good crisp flow to them. His characters have just the right amount of detail. There’s nothing here that could be defined as unique or cutting edge, but it’s beautifully drawn and thoroughly entertaining.

I really hate that I waited so late to start reading Krul’s run. The few issues I did read were a lot of fun plus they encouraged me to buy the trade once it’s released. There is a solid cast of characters that Krul handles well and Scott’s art brings them to the page in a wonderful way. Consider me impressed.
