T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS is the first New52 miniseries I’ve sampled, and I just wasn’t impressed. I don’t know these characters, and this first issue didn’t really do anything for that. In fact, a lot of the issue seems to rely on existing relationships, and it all just seems like too much at once.

Conceptually, this series also feels a little redundant with STORMWATCH in ongoing. The flavor seems sort of similar – well, without the cosmic weirdness – but the entire mandate of being the group that deals with issues that they don’t want to go public is pretty much the same. The fact that the Agents’ powers are essentially terminal is interesting, but otherwise it’s not even clear what most of the characters’ powers ARE, or why we should even care that they are living on borrowed time.

This is one of those series that seems like a step too many for the New DCU.

  1. You are aware that this is the follow-up to Vol 1 #1-10 that just came out in trade this week also, right? So maybe that’s why you’re confused reading this?

I didn’t read volume 1 nor this issue, by the way, just passing information along. 😉

  2. Yeah, this is basically T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #11.
