This might be my favorite issue of Sweet Tooth yet.
I said earlier this week that I felt like Gus's half of the story had been neglected of late and that I was looking forward to seeing Jeff Lemire re-focus the plot onto the titular character.
And guess what? I got exactly what I wanted. Jepperd is nowhere to be seen this issue as we go deep into Sweet Tooth's repressed memories of his childhood in the woods with his father. Many questions are finally answered, at least partially. But as in any great ongoing serialized narrative; the more we learn about Gus's past, the more questions are raised. I don't think I've been as eager for the next issue of this series since the last-page reveal at the end of issue #5 when we learned that Jepperd was selling Gus to a bunch of creeps in a fenced in compound in exchange for who-knew-what in a mysterious duffel bag.
I also have to mention Lemire's layouts in this issue. Gus is - quite literally - leading Dr. Singh through his memories, and Lemire seems to take every opportunity to get creative with this concept. Just check out page 3, or the two-page spread on 8-9 to see what I mean.
All in all, this issue succeeded on every level.
