Having only recently gotten back into buying single-issues of comics, I’ve really wanted some one-and-done issues to satisfy me.  Waiting month-to-month after getting used to trades can be difficult.  Luckily, this issue of SUPERMAN/BATMAN was just the type of story I was looking for.  It’s a great stand alone issue without any continuity to drag it down.

The story follows Tim Drake’s Robin and Supergirl dealing with (yet another) outbreak at Arkham.  But it’s the interplay between the characters that made the issue for me.  A bit of banter between the experienced Robin and the new on the scene Supergirl was nice, along with Supergirl’s surprise at some of Batman’s more sadistic enemies.

The art was solid.  Rafael Albuquerque did a great job with the characters’ facial expressions and the red lighting in the climactic scene played very well.

All in all, this issue made me very happy to be back in the single issue format.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
