I don’t hate JMS’s take on Superman like many do. But I don’t love it either. I like it well enough and each issue is getting stronger.

The main problem that I keep finding is that each issue seems to be broken up into two parts. One where Superman deals with a criminal or scumbag or just has a one on one confrontation with a member of the public. This part is usually awkwardly written and seemingly out of character for Supes. It’s just bizarre most of the time.

Then there are his interactions with the public in general which is where the actual story thread picks up. These are more interesting (especially in this issue), but are still not quite there.

The supporting characters coming in and out seem forced, everything just seems to contrived.

I still like the idea, there just needs to be better execution. Regardless, I’ll stick around for the duration of the run.
