SUPERGIRL #2 continues the pacing and feel of #1 admirably, with a disoriented Supergirl discovering her powers in the middle of what most be a hugely stressful situation. Superman’s here, and so we get more dialogue from this issue, standing in for a lot of Kara’s internal monologue (though that’s still here to a degree). And it’s great, watching her continue to discover her circumstances, her new powers, and her long-lost cousin.

Kara, understandably, suspects Superman of being a trick at first, and the result is the brawl promised on the cover. It’s cool Kryptonian-on-Kryptonian action and goes just far enough to do its job but not become stale.

Meanwhile, this issue also begins to hint at the motives behind the armored soldiers who arrived before Superman to subdue Kara, so by the looks of things future issues will start to incorporate that plot, as well, which may increase the pace of the series. For now Kara is so well rendered – both visually and textually – that I’m more than happy to take it slow during her first steps here on Earth. But so long as what works here doesn’t suffer, more content can’t hurt.
