20 pages for $2.99, if they’re all as good as this you’ve got a deal DC.

In 20 pages Lemire resolved a cliffhanger, advanced his subplot, and got me to invest so much into a new character that the ending had my jaw on the floor. This is why I stuck with this series after a couple of rocky issues, I knew this writer had it in him to deliver.

One thing I noticed, that really stood out was that Lori (Lex’s neice) smokes. I thought this was an interesting real world aspect to add to the character. Is it a hint that she has a darkside waiting to reveal itself, or is DC just experimenting now the Comics Code is out the window by giving Conner’s potential girlfiend a realistic flaw.

The best thing about the issue was the Conner’s glasses were no were in sight, and the art never pulled me out of the story as a result. In fact the layout of the first page and the splash page explaining Psionic Lad’s origin were so creative I can’t help but think Lemire had a hand in them as well.

This and Sweet Tooth were both 5 stars this week, but as this book up’d it’s game, I had to give this Pick of the Week!

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
