God, I love good Noir so damn much. I also love a New Oni book. This company can do very little that is not 10 degrees of awesome. I also really enjoy the modern use of Indian culture to replace the Italian gangster when it comes to casinos and such.
Regardless, this book was amazing simply for the fact that it had something that often isn't employed in detective stories, a sympathetic protagonist. I love how Rucka didn't go with another trite hard boiled deeply flawed character that talks through gritted teeth while drinking himself to death. Instead, we get a very affable lady with a few faults, but still has friends and generally a good person. I love all the incidental lesbian references, especially since they weren't circled and highlighted. They were just parts of the story and made for a more satisfying whole.
The art was excellent. It reminds me a lot of Lark's Gotham Central stuff, but that just may be how Rucka writes. I loved the spiraling panels towards the front of the story. I liked the page where it was establishing shot and the dialogue followed the path they were walking. The last time I remember something like this happening was in Morrison's All Star Superman. ( I was going to abbreviate that, but thought better.)
I had a couple of very minor qualms with the book. 1) My lazy ass cannot find if this is an ongoing or if it's a mini or if it is going to be a series of minis. 2). I was a little confused with the countdown motif of time shifts. I figured it out when she went to the rich guy's house, but I am slow.
Great book. Cannot wait for issue 2.

on the talksplode, rucka says its going to be like 1-4 then a couple months break then repeat. something like that. i think this is going to go on for a long time like queen and country as long as the sales are good
