I heard about this book through CB Cebulski’s tweets and I am definitely glad I picked it up. This book is absolutely stunning to look at. The penciled look and the tattered pages they appear on create the feeling of familiarity. Whether it was Paddington Bear or Peter Rabbit, this book will bring back the feeling of those old classic childrens stories you looked at so many times. The book is undersized and absolutley stunning to look at, from the layouts to the perfect art, you will be impressed.
The writing is good, not great. The story is reminisant of Toy Story with a splash of Winnie the Pooh. It also has a few darker points that add a sense of discomfort to the children’s story style of the book. (There is also a clown holding two hatchets that adds substantially to the discomfort level)
Overall this book is a pretty incredible peice of art. I highly reccomend you grab it at your local shop if you can find it. Mine had 2 left but I arrived later in the day so I wouldn’t be suprised if they had already sold quite a few.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Great review, agree with the "stunning", but I wouldn’t call the book "undersized", it just uses a square page format instead of rectangle, just like Mouse Guard.

I heard an interesting interview with the Mouse Guard artist who likes the square page because of your ability to do a better job with landscapes and have more wide angle shots.  You could definitely see that in play on this book too.
