With the names attached to this book, I couldn't pass it up. "Stephen King & Joe Hill's Road Rage #1 (of 4) adapted by Chris Ryall based on Richard Matheson's 'Duel'" finally beats out "Precious: Based on the novel 'Push' by Sapphire" as THE Epic Overload title. It's also a solid comic book. We're thrown right into a story of a biker gang called The Tribe looking to salvage a major score that went up in a meth lab fire (like they do), when suddenly their list of problems grows to include a murderous truck driver. The story draws the reader in quickly by dropping into a tale of revenge and politics already in progress. However, it has a couple of hiccups in its frequent, brief flash-backs and finding the voice for the as-of-yet not introduced narrator. If you don't catch who all of the characters are, don't worry, there's a handy roll call as each of them meets their grizzly deaths. Nelson Daniel's art, while not changing my world view, does a very good job capturing the dirt of the open road and the gore smeared across it. All-in-all, a strong combination of talent that has made an enjoyable first issue that will definitely bring me back next month.
