This was dreadful.  I can’t imagine this was written by someone who has even watched Stargate, let alone enjoyed it or cared about it at all.  And as I have a tattoo of a Stargate, I can hardly believe the publishers allowed this dreck to see the light of day.

Vala has zero attitude and speaks with Teal’c’s characteristic speech patterns.  Teal’c himself is nowhere to be seen…maybe the artist just forgot to draw him, and the writer said, “Oh, that’s ok, just give his lines to Vala.  She’s an alien too, so they probably all talk like that.”

Daniel has none of the wit or charm or humanity that define the character.  In a book starring Daniel, you’d think that would be the one character they’d try to get right.  But there are no characters in this book, just flimsy cliche-spouting cardboard standups moving the plot along.

And when I say plot, I mean that in the loosest possible sense.  It’s like someone skimmed the TV Guide two-line synopses for a couple of Stargate episodes and decided to write a boring version of them.

I was pretty excited that Stargate was getting a new life in comics, and Brandon Jerwa is doing a fine job so far with his Vala story (not that I have any real love for Vala or interest in a story starring her, but he’s clearly got a story to tell about her, and he knows who she is and how to write in this universe).  But this is a Daniel Jackson feature story, and it sucks.  That’s so disappointing I wound up writing a review no one will read for a comic with 4 pulls on iFanboy.
