Though part of the company’s second wave of comics showcasing various races of Trek lore, “Star Trek Alien Spotlight – Q” is a done in one, stand-alone adventure, which sees the titular character return to bedevil poor Captain Jean-Luc Picard one more time in a post “First Contact” setting.

Entertaining at parts, “Q” is a solid enough issue as we see Picard lighten up at the expense of the misfortunes of his recurring opponent. Although, to be fair, the plot resolution felt rushed, striking me as a tad too easy given the parameters in which we were given. But, overall, a strong comic read.

Of special note, I quite enjoyed Q’s unexpected display of compassion for Picard during the issue’s concluding sequence. A nice grace note, especially given the character’s involvement with the Federation’s introduction to the Borg. You almost get the sense that Q is almost apologetic — not a trait we see in the character all too often.
