“The Traveler” makes me mad for a petty reason. This is Mark Waid writing some of his best work on The Flash in years but it’s calling itself “The Traveler” instead. If you miss Mark Waid’s wacky Speed Force tricks and tightly plotted time travel stories with side of human drama, “The Traveler” delivers with a hero whose power playground is time and whose time travel antics will twist and tweak your mind just enough to keep you thinking.
The dialogue is schlocky, the reveals and betrayals telegraphed, but this is classic superhero storytelling that feels like the start of a new legend. Clichés are cliché for a reason and this issues gives us the rich setup for a solid foundation of stories based on the hero’s secret identity, nemesis, origin, love interest, etc. The Hardin art is clean, clear, expressive, and animated and boldly colored by Blond.
