not a whole hell of a lot happens here other than we see some more characters, like clown and some “angels”, coming into play around the deadzone created by the head-less Hellspawn’s aparant suicide. Also, the mysterious patient 47 gets a name and a girl who used to talk to him while he was in a coma continues to talk now that he’s awake.
the main audience for this book, as far as i can tell, are people like me who used to read spawn but dropped it. it still has that familiar feel of pre-100 Spawn but also maintian the same sense of design that the more recent spawn issue had.
as far as art goes, this is probably the best ive ever seen from Portcaro, and i think alot of that has to do with Mcfarlane doing digital inks, which also gives it the feel of being familiar yet new.
it was really nice to read an issue of Spawn again, but i hope they have somewhere to go with this and that it continues to get good, because honestly i was reading spawn before i was even really into comic books, and its a book i really want to read and enjoy.
