Snapshot wraps up it’s run with issue four and if you were looking for a warm and fuzzy ending then obviously you haven’t been reading this book. But there are plenty of reasons you should.

Writer Andy Diggle’s approach to this semi-noir crime action tale has been to attack and move relentlessly. It’s a tightly paced story that gives the reader very little time to catch their breath and makes you tangibly feel the frenetic chaos, main character, Jake’s life has become. It is only until this final installment does he slow down and let Jake’s pain and suffering set in. The ending is no consolation either and nor should it be. Diggle’s puts Jake in a no win situation that will end up costing him his humanity and for me it couldn’t and shouldn’t end any other way. While the overall pace is slower than the past two issues there is still plenty of action, bloody gun fights and shocks. Diggle is nothing if not consistent with his voice and his twists are never forced.

Jock’s art, is as always, top notch. His ability to depict gritty, edgy, darkness in black and white is outstanding. His stark backgrounds and use of negative space gives a clear view of all the action and drama. Simply put Diggle and Jock are the perfect match for this style of story. Snapshot is an underrated and often overlooked title but it is, flat-out, one the best surprises of the year and deserving of more exposure. I can only hope that Jake’s transformation at the end of this issue results in a new story arc and a possible ongoing run for Snapshot.
