The Purple Smurf episode of The Smurfs cartoon is one of only two episodes of the show that have survived the toll that years of substance abuse have taken on my brain.  The other episode being the creation of Smurfette.

This was a nice little trip down Nostalgia Alley, but the comics abuse the “substitute the word ‘smurf’ for random words” gag a lot more than I remember the TV show doing it.  Then again, I haven’t seen an episode in twenty something years.
