I’ve loved this series so far.  This issue was a great chase sequence that involved a confrontation with a gigantic Thunderbird, more bravado from the series’ major villain–an undead Confederate general who travels in a coffin and chains–, and special bullets that set people on fire.  The issue was great, pulpy fun, but there’s also a lot of exposition here, too, that reveals some more about the mysterious “six guns” and the male protagonist.  It’s a credit to the writing that the exposition and the action intertwined so seamlessly.

Brian Hurtt’s art in this issue was gorgeous.  He draws in a cartoony style and uses lots of sound effects lettering, and both of these qualities give each panel and page a feeling of motion.  Nothing looks static or flat.  I even detected a little bit of Jack Kirby in the full-page image of the Thunderbird.  This is a fun supernatural Western, and it’s been getting better with each issue.
