This is the first review I’ve writen, so here goes nothing.

As I stated in my comment, I was thinking of dropping Simon Dark. Since the last few issue have been “so-so” at best. This issue, however, was a improvement. Not a vast improvement, but a improvement none-the-less. At lest enough of an improvement to pick up the next issue.

The story picks up some more, with new threats on the streets of Gotham. First, a college teacher who “hunger for younger rose” (Simon Dark, issue 14, page 1, Steve Niles). Pluse, something is lose on the streets that has the strength to rip a human body apart.

The Art is still with Scott Hampton, who kind of swings back and forth for me. Some pages, his art are good, while other are okay.

If I could, I would give this issue a 3.5. I don’t want to give it a 3, because it was better then that. Nor do I want to give it a 4, since it wasn’t that great. But, for lack of being able to give it a 3.5, I’ll just give it 4. Over all, it’s not to bad. If you are already a fan, you’ll like it.

Till next time;

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good

  1. Thanks for the review, nice work. I’d made last issue my last issue but I might give this a go now. Normal I really like the art and the writing is hit and miss for me.

  2. Thank Ford. Yeah, the art is pretty hit and miss for me as well. I think what I don’t like about it, is how when it a pulled back shot, you get very little details of the characters image (you can’t even see Simon’s stichings). But when it a close up, that when it pretty good.

  3. Nice work on your first review Joe. It takes practice, but I am sure you will be a pro in no time. I am a huge fan of Steve Niles writing. It has been a long time since I have purchased any DC title (excluding Vertigo) on a regular basis. I still haven’t really decided if I like the direction it is taking… but my boyfriend keeps saying if you stuck with it through issue 14 you must like it. I have been with Simon since issue #1 and plan to stick with it for a little while longer — maybe even the long haul. My only complaint, really, is that someone could not pick up Issue 14 and start from there. They would have no idea what was going on. How about a "Story so far" page so it is easier to bring in new readers DC?
