“Oh Young Avengers, how I miss you?”  This is the thought that always crosses my mind when I read any stories featuring the characters.  This tie-in issue of Siege ended up being pretty good, but not great.  McKeever weaves a fine tale, providing character moments for the team, but some of the dialogue feels a bit forced.  I love the relationship between Kate and Eli, and it always makes for interesting moments, especially in this issue where they find themselves buried alive.  Wiccan’s moments with Hulkling are fairly standard for a hero who is emotionally beat, but the explanation of his woes was really a great moment and really touched on something I think we all feel.

I was a bit disappointed with Asrar’s art this issue.  He is one of my favorites, and his body of work on Dynamo 5 has in no way been matched since his move to more mainstream work.  I wouldn’t have thought anything of it before the guys did their show on inkers and colorists, but this think the art in this issue is definitely a failing of both inking and coloring.  It’s definitely noticeable when the shifts happen, and it changes his work from dark and thickly lined to almost cartoony and flat with kinetic, hyper edges.  It causes the art to very blah and inconsistent.  It’s almost a shame that no one has taken the step to find his inker and colorer from Dynamo 5 because his work there is so much better.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 2 - Average
