If I won the lottery today, I think I know what’d I do with the money.  I’d take like $3 million of it and put it in the bank.  That’s “me” money.  And the rest of my giant winnings would go to Joss Whedon with a little note attached to it that read: “Use this to make Firefly again.”

What sucks about these comics is that it makes you miss the series and the characters that have brought you so much joy.  What’s awesome about these comics is that you at least get to revisit them every once and while.  I found this issue to be a lot better than the first, as the character moments in this issue are great.  As I’m reading through the panels it feels like I’m looking at the storyboards for an epidsode of the show.  I can hear the characters voices and I can see their movements as they happen.  It’s simply a joy to read.

The story in this issue is well executed and is enjoyable, and I have to admit that I love taking a peek at each character’s fantasy of being rich.  It adds a layer of humor to the whole experience and continues to make these characters interesting.  And frankly, I want to see what happens…I want to see how this “episode” ends.

While I’m not a huge fan of the art in this book, there are moments where it really shines.  Some of the panels really feel loose as the characters sometimes look like their TV counterparts and sometimes not.  It’s a little jarring, but not so bad that it detracts from what’s going on.  The art in this series, so far, has been servicible, and I appreciate that the tone of it is realistic yet not photo-realistic or painted.

If you’re a fan of the TV series, you owe yourself the favor of picking this book up.  It’s a small slice of the wonderful universe that’s sure to not disappoint…until it makes you think about how much you miss this show.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 3 - Good

  1. Great review, best fantasy was River’s.  Also Jayne had the best line ever in this issue.  I think you hit the nail on the head about this book being a double edge sword.  It’s good, but at the same time you miss the show.
