I’m not one of those guys who can afford to buy 20+ comics in any given week, so I need to carefully choose where I drop my hard earned cash.  Month after month, I have been picking up this title, and I have not been dissappointed.

Let’s start with Casselli’s art.  This guy is a monster.  What I love about his pencils is that every character has a very original look.  It’s not just the costumes or the hairsytles, but every face is unique and distinguishable.  His Nick Fury is bang on.  There is also a dynamic flow to his panels and his use of perspective is fantastic.  After picking up the first few issues, I bought the first 3 volumes of Avengers: The Initiative in trade.  (Yes, I like his work that much.).

Next up is Hickman.  I haven’t had a chance to pick up any of his past work yet, but it’s definitely on my list because this guy has got it.  His dialogue is authentic and each character has a distinct voice.  The story is grand in scope and the action is non-stop.  You never quite know what is going to happen next, but you can’t wait to find out what will.  There is something very fresh about this title.  It’s fun, yet remains relevant to what’s going on in the Marvel U.  The caterpillar teams are very interesting, and I think it will be very interesting to learn more about these characters as the story progresses, since a lot of the character development has been overshadowed a bit by the macro story of the first arc.

If you haven’t been picking up Secret Warriors, I suggest picking it up when the first trade comes out.  You won’t be dissappointed.
