I think this will likely be another divisive SI book but I enjoyed it greatly.  Of course, I’ve been enjoying SI so far because it has been a slow build and all the side books have had great little stories about individual characters.  For those that aren’t looking for that this isn’t probably your thing.

The first story has Captain Marvel and sadly this one was probably a mistake.  Not telling it but that it should have come out before SI started since we finally learn why Captain Marvel is attacking Thunderbolts Mountain.  It was the weakest of the bunch.

The Agent Brand story was fantastic.  She’s one of the best new characters in a long time and Mike Carey seems to write her perfectly, I am glad she isn’t going to fall apart with Whedon gone.  We get a nice little peak at her rise and how much she knows or should have known about the Skrull invasion.  It also looks like we’ll be seeing her again which is fantastic.

The other story of note is the fantastic Beast and Wonderman team up.  I loved seeing the pair together and I think this one underlies the fact that you really don’t know who to trust.  I spent the entire story believing Beast was a Skrull but now I’m not sure, maybe he is the real Beast.  I also have long thought Wonderman is a Skrull, which also may be true.  Either way, it was nice to see their uneasy team up, I’ve missed the pairing.

All said, none of the stories were really clunkers and a couple were stand outs.  If you are following SI and enjoying it then I definitely think this is worth a read.

  1. i read it and loved it.  though was a little lost because i didnt know who some of the Char’s were.  i did some reserch and desided that i liked those also.

  2. Beast / Wonderman was good, I’ll agree, but the coloring was awful. Ultimates 3 #1 awful.

    Other than that, good book.
