I must admit that I have not loved the new Thor. It is well-written, and the art is striking. Perhaps I had been hoping for more purpose to the stories. For those who do not know, the ongoing series has focused on the rebuilding of Asgard after Ragnarok. Thor is now in Odin’s chair, and he has chosen to locate Asgard adjacent to a tiny town in Oklahoma (rather than in another dimension in space) as an experiment to connect with humanity.  The premise is good, but I found the stories a bit tiresome.

No more, sir. Secret Invasion Thor has invigorated me. Without revealing too much, this tale has:
– the return of Beta Ray Bill (who is drawn better than at any time I can recall)
– good Loki-mediated treachery
– a good Donald Blake story
– a great Asgard call-to-arms.

I am hoping that this is the spark that brings a little bit of the old Thor back. What I always loved about this character is that he is so versatile. He can appear in cosmic stories, Avengers tales, bits about Asgardian conflict, and others. Most importantly, he can kick tail. His weapon is a hammer! Thor is Marvel’s greatest tough-guy, and he is a gentlemanly soldier. I think that Secret Invasion Thor has brought this character back. And the Marvel U is better for it.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
