This series went from being my favorite post-relaunch Avengers book to a “Huh.  I just read that.” title.  The Serpent Crown storyline is very ambitious but it’s not working for me.  The writing is more Captain America Reborn Brubaker than Captain America Brubaker, in that it’s good, but not focused.  The characters in this issue aren’t just physically scattered, but thematically scattered, too.  And I’m not sure if I’m invested enough to track them all down.

Once again, overly dark colors muddle Deodato’s pencils.  I think the day is not far off when people look at the color scheme of some of Marvel’s major titles with the same laughing anti-nostalgia that they have for overly pocketed uniforms and exaggerated musculature.
