Sometimes, one of the more fun aspects of comics is watching a creator find a way out of the corner they’ve backed themselves into.  With the conclusion of the “Emperor Dragon” storyline, Eric Larsen does just that, and its a fine example of just what makes comics so much fun.  With this storyline, Larsen has brought major change to the Dragon universe, and the shake-up is so large readers are left to wonder just where it will head.  And to me, that’s the sign of a comic book with a solid storyline.  I enjoyed this issue immensely because with every page turn I found myself thinking, “Oh!” “Holy…!” “What the…?”  “How is he…?”  “Wow!”  It was a series of surprise turns with every page, and that only equals great fun in my book.  While the story was fun, I still feel very mediocre about the art.  I actually preferred Larsen’s style from when the series first started, and his more modern approach just doesn’t quite live up to that standard.  He’s choosing thicker lines and looser detail with brighter, more contrasted colors.  Some of his images lack details in parts, which makes sense with the looser approach, but doesn’t quite scratch my artist itch.  I guess I can’t complain too much because its what is getting the book out on time every month.  I can’t wait for next month’s issue.  This one certainly left me pondering the issues final tag line: “So….what now?”

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 3 - Good
