Time for my monthly "Ruse Review."  I 'm writing something about this book whenever it comes out because it is consistently my favorite book being published right now. 

I was struck while reading by what a good idea it is to tell the story from Emma's perspective rather than Simon's.  We get to genuinely feel for her character and this allows for the emotional distance from Simon that makes him such a good character in his own right.  His logical mind and inability to interact seamlessly with others are two of his defining features and can be endearing when you've been reading the story for a while.

Waid is at his best with snappy dialogue and intriguing story turns.  There are multiple reveals in this issue (the presence of Queen Victoria, the attack on Simon's agents) and none of them seem forced.  They are all integral to the story and push the narrative along rather than interrupting it for the sake of a shock.  I am very excited for the conclusion of this story and have no doubt that I'll enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed the first three issues.
