I always enjoyed Ruse when it was a Crossgen book and looked forward to the new series.  This didn’t disappoint.  The characters and overall feel are consistent with the original series.  Simon isn’t a particularly likeable character, but he is an interesting one and Emma is a character that readers can easily relate to.  They are excellent foils for one another.  I’m glad that they have, apparently, done away with the magical sub-plot of the first series, although that could change sometime in the next few issues.  Anyone that really enjoyed it when it was at Crossgen (both of you) will definitely enjoy this book as well.  If you never read the Crossgen book, you do not need to have done so to enjoy or understand this.

I was really in the mood for a Victorian Detective story.  I know that genre comics are often overlooked by a majority of the comic buyers, but this is a series that should have an audience.  I would love to hear that Marvel was going to publish semi-regular mini’s of the book (I don’t think for one second that the market could support an ongoing).  If you’ve never read Ruse, pick up the first Crossgen trade from your local public library.  If you like that, you’ll probably like this.
