Runways #1 is a few “firsts” for me. For one, it’s the first issue of the new series. Secondly, it’s the first book by Terry Moore that I’ve read. Finally, it’s the only issue of Runaways that I’ve ever liked.

It felt strange reading this issue because not only am I not familiar with any of the characters, but I am also way behind on recent events (or as recent as things can get when the last issue was written by Joss Whedon). The art, as many will agree, was somewhat jarring but I got used to it fairly quickly and have no complaints.

Moore really put together a nice first chapter, pulling me in and keeping me interested to the point that I want to know what happens next.

I honestly expected more of the same stuff that came from Vaughan’s issues. That’s not to say it was bad, it just didn’t interest me. I look forward to seeing more from Moore and Ramos, which is something I never thought I’d get to say.

I guess I’m rambling more than reviewing, but that happens when I get excited about a new series. And I am certainly excited about this book.
