This week was a major disappointment over all with books for me.  I think Robin was the biggest, all though I enjoyed it more then War is Hell First Flight of the Phantom Eagle.  You may be confused by that statement.  The reason I found this book to be the biggest disappointment is that with this story arc, I’m finding myself not caring about Robin anymore.  It has been the most consistently pulled book in my box for years with over 50 consecutive issues in my collection.  I started with the Johnny Warlock run and have hung in there for a while.

Next month this book is most likely not going to be in my stack unless I get it out of habit.  I really feel like with this arc that Dixon is trying to reboot a lot of what happened in Beechen’s run.

Yes Zoe is mentioned and he seems to want to keep the character, but if Spoiler is Stephanie, I foresee him dropping her like yesterday’s bad news.  Which upsets me, even though I liked Spoiler I was never a huge fan.  Not big enough that I think she needs to be brought back.  Also I feel like Dixon has made Tim too easily thrown off with Violet.  The only thing that connects her with Spoiler is the color of their costume, yet he can’t think straight around her.  This is also based off of what I know of Spoiler, which is not a huge amount.  Please correct me if I am wrong it may actually help me understand this story arc better.

I didn’t know how I would like Batista’s art after Williams left, but I do like it.  Sadly art can only take a book so far for me.

The worst part is I know people are enjoying Dixon writing Robin and I feel like I should like this story, but even though it’s only been a few issues (I think) it’s felt like six.  I just want to know if it’s our Spoiler (Stephanie) back and get rid of this stupid Violet character so I can move on.

Someone send me the memo when I can start reading Robin again because I like it and not out of habit.  I thank Conor for this because I decided to wait on reading my comics only a few days and it has shown me that Robin most likely needs to go on the chopping block.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. So Spoiler is the other purple chick?  I picked this book up on Josh’s review and have no idea who Zoe or Spoiler is.

I think I’m going to drop this book. I’m disappointed, I really wanted to read a good Bat-universe book.  I’m still buying Nightwing and Detective.

  2. I agree with you that the story hasn’t been altogether there, but I really enjoy Dixon’s take on Robin, particularly in comparison to what post Beechen writers had done with him.  I’m on wait and see mode with this, but for Dixon, this may be just him getting comfortable with the character again.
