I’ve been a big fan of the Dark Horse Presents series, even back when it was Myspace Dark Horse Presents (Friendster Dark Horse Presents sucked). Resident Alien is one of my favorite quirky stories from the anthology series. This issue serves as a primer for the impending mini, and includes the first three chapters (called Welcome to Earth)from its run in DHP.

It’s an incredibly obvious idea for an alien story but one that I don’t recall reading before. An alien tries to pass as human after (presumably) crash landing on Earth. He poses as a doctor, and tries to live outside society, but is pulled into small town life by a murder investigation. No, he’s not a suspect, they just need a doctor.

It’s one of the more fun setup issues I’ve seen in a while. As much as I would love to see this fleshed out across a dozen or so issues, I’m excited that it’s a limited run, as that makes it more likely that they have a destination in mind for this story. I could see it being problematic as an open ended ongoing.

  1. This sort of reminds me of a Star Trek episode. This is what I imagine Mr. Spock would do if he got stuck in the past on Earth.
